Glenn Hall
Birthplace: Chicago, United States
An American tenor from Chicago who created Joe in La fanciulla del West at the Metropolitan Opera on 10 December 1910. As a boy soprano he toured the country, found by one Chicago church as a rival to another's choirboy. He left the University of Chicago in his senior year for oratorio, first making his name in Elijah, and sang in Leipzig under Nikisch. After study in Paris and Berlin he was at the Metropolitan from 1909 to 1911, mostly in Wagner, and sang in the American premiere of The Queen of Spades under Mahler in 1910.
