Birthplace: Vienna, Austrian Empire

August Egon Hablawetz was an Austrian bass who spent twenty-two years as a Vienna Court Opera ensemble member after training as a printer. He began onstage in the Josefstädter Theater chorus in 1852 and made his solo debut in Linz in 1857. Engagements in Stuttgart, Basel, Dresden, Lemberg and Graz followed before Vienna engaged him in 1870, debuting as Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro. He created Reinmar von Zweter in the house's 1875 Tannhäuser and sang Zuniga at that year's Vienna premiere of Carmen, remaining in the ensemble until his death.
