Carlo Guasco
Birthplace: Solero, French Empire (département de Marengo)
Carlo Guasco was an Italian tenor who created three Verdi roles: Oronte in I Lombardi, the title role of Ernani and Foresto in Attila. Trained first as a surveyor, he studied singing in Milan with Giacomo Panizza and made his debut at La Scala as Ruodi, the fisherman in Guillaume Tell. He created Chalais in Donizetti's Maria di Rohan in Vienna in 1843, sang in St Petersburg from 1846 to 1848, and appeared in Paris, London and Madrid. He retired in 1853 to his native Solero, where he taught singing and served in the town's administration.
