Leone Giraldoni was an Italian baritone with a rich, high-lying voice who created the title role of Simon Boccanegra at La Fenice in 1857 and Renato in Un ballo in maschera in Rome in 1859. Born in Paris, he studied in Florence with Luigi Ronzi and made his debut at Lodi in 1847. He also created the title role of Donizetti's posthumous Il duca d'Alba in Rome in 1882, and after leaving the stage in 1885 taught singing, from 1891 at the Moscow Conservatory. He married the soprano and violinist Carolina Ferni, and their son Eugenio became a leading baritone.
