Fernando Gianoli Galletti

An Italian bass who specialised in comic and character parts. The son of the singer Isabella Galletti Gianoli, he was called in 1904 a very well-known interpreter of character roles, and that May at Brescia created both Prince Yamadori and Yakusidé in the revised Madama Butterfly. From 1907 he sang with Oscar Hammerstein's Manhattan Opera in New York, as Remigio in La Navarraise and the Rag Picker in Louise, and in November 1909 he sang the Sacristan in Tosca at the Metropolitan Opera House. He died the following year and is buried at Kensal Green in London.
