Giuseppina Giaconia

An Italian mezzo-soprano who created Suzuki in the first Madama Butterfly at La Scala on 17 February 1904. She was singing by 1893, in Mignon at Bergamo, and at the Liceu in Barcelona in 1894-95 was Lola, Maddalena, Siebel and Maffio Orsini. At the Teatro Regio in Parma in 1898-99 she sang Emilia, Marta and Pantalis. In 1905 she sang with Titta Ruffo at Odessa and St Petersburg, and on 18 February 1911 made her only appearance at the Metropolitan Opera, in Madama Butterfly. In 1914-15 she was at the Teatro Real in Madrid, in Lakmé.
