Italo Gardoni

Italo Gardoni was an Italian tenore di grazia, with a light, pure voice, versatile as singer and actor. He studied with Antonio De Cesari and made his debut in 1840 at Viadana as Roberto Devereux, then sang in Italy, Germany and at the Paris Opéra. At Her Majesty's Theatre in London he created Carlo in Verdi's I masnadieri in 1847, opposite Jenny Lind, and he sang regularly in London and Paris into the 1870s, at Covent Garden from 1855. He sang in the first performance of Rossini's Petite messe solennelle, and married a daughter of the baritone Antonio Tamburini.
