Ines Maria Ferraris

An Italian soprano who spent some twenty years at La Scala in light lyric and soubrette roles. She began as a pianist, giving concerts from the age of twelve, then studied singing with Vittorio Vanzo in Milan and made her stage debut at Bologna in 1908 as Philine. At La Scala from 1911 she sang Sophie in the first Italian Der Rosenkavalier and became a favourite of Toscanini. She created Lisette in La rondine at Monte Carlo in 1917. She retired in 1934 and taught; her recordings include duets with Conchita Supervia.
