Remo Ercolani
Birthplace: Rome, Papal States
An Italian bass whose career ran through Italy, Spain, Portugal, Eastern Europe and South America. Born in Rome to a noble family, he studied at the Paris Conservatoire and made his debut at the Teatro Sociale in Udine in 1883 as Mephistopheles in Faust. Boito's Mefistofele, Marcel in Les Huguenots and King Henry in Lohengrin were staples of seasons in Warsaw, Lisbon, Barcelona and Bucharest, and from 1892 he sang almost every year in Buenos Aires, where in 1905 he created Gualtiero in the final version of Edgar. Later he added comic roles such as Dulcamara and Don Pasquale.
