Erna Ellmenreich
Birthplace: Merano, Austria-Hungary (now Merano, Italy)
Erna Ellmenreich was a German soprano who made her stage debut in 1908 at the Stuttgart Court Theatre as Marguerite in Faust. A member of the Stuttgart company from 1909 to 1924, she created Echo in the premiere of Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos in 1912, the Märchenfrau in the premiere of Siegfried Wagner's An allem ist Hütchen schuld! in 1917, and roles in two Hindemith premieres at Stuttgart in 1921, and appeared as a guest in Cologne and Frankfurt. Her repertoire included Cherubino and Dorabella, and the title roles of Carmen, Mignon and Madama Butterfly. She left Stuttgart in 1924 for a career in concert and guest performance.
