Florence Easton
Birthplace: Middlesbrough, England
An English soprano whose versatility made her a mainstay of the Metropolitan Opera for twelve seasons. She studied in London and Paris, made her debut at Newcastle upon Tyne in 1903 as the Shepherd in Tannhäuser, and toured North America with Henry Savage's English Grand Opera Company. With her husband, the tenor Francis Maclennan, she then sang at the Berlin Hofoper and in Hamburg. At the Met from 1917 to 1929 she sang 41 roles, creating Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi in 1918, and she returned in 1936 for a farewell as Brünnhilde in Die Walküre.
