Adam Didur

Birthplace: Wola Sękowa, Austria-Hungary (Galicia)
A Polish bass and a Metropolitan Opera principal for a quarter of a century. He studied in Lwów with Walery Wysocki and in Milan, made his debut at Rio de Janeiro in 1894, and sang at the Warsaw Opera, La Scala and Covent Garden before his Met debut in 1908 as Ramfis. He gave over 900 performances there, among them the first American Boris Godunov, and created Ashby in La fanciulla del West, Il Talpa in Il tabarro and Simone in Gianni Schicchi. He returned to Poland on retiring and became the first director of the Silesian Opera.
