Prosper Dérivis

Prosper Dérivis was a French bass, son of the bass Henri-Étienne Dérivis, who created Zaccaria in Verdi's Nabucco at La Scala in 1842 and Pagano in I Lombardi alla prima crociata there in 1843. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire and made his debut at the Opéra in 1831, going on to create Nevers in Les Huguenots, Balducci in Benvenuto Cellini and Félix in Donizetti's Les martyrs. In Vienna in 1842 he created the Prefect in Linda di Chamounix. Back at the Opéra, he sang Ferrando in the first Le trouvère in 1857, and he later taught at the Conservatoire.
