Charles Delmas

A French tenor from Bordeaux, whose career ran from leading lyric roles at the Opéra-Comique to a long run of character parts at Monte Carlo. He made his Opéra-Comique debut as Des Grieux in Manon on 12 October 1891, and in 1893 sang Nadir in the company's first Les pêcheurs de perles. At Monte Carlo he created Juan in Massenet's Don Quichotte in 1910, Antinoüs in Fauré's Pénélope in 1913 and Gobin in La rondine in 1917, and sang Mime, Spoletta and the title role in Monteverdi's L'Orfeo and in Rameau's Platée. The politician Jacques Chaban-Delmas was his grandson.
