Innocente De Anna

baritone

A baritone who sang from Malta to Rio de Janeiro. At the Royal Opera House in Valletta in 1880 he created Ugo Mazara in Antonio Nani's I cavalieri di Malta. Carlos Gomes wrote the title role of Lo schiavo for him, and De Anna hawked it round the theatres he sang in, even proposing it to Augustus Harris for Covent Garden, before creating Ibère at its premiere in Rio on 27 September 1889. He created Frank in the three-act Edgar at Ferrara in 1892. He married the harpist Rosalinda Sacconi, and their papers are in the Palatina Library in Parma.
