Louis D'Angelo
Birthplace: Naples, Kingdom of Italy
An American bass-baritone who sang at the Metropolitan Opera for thirty years, in more than 1,800 performances. Born in Naples, he was taken to the United States at the age of three and trained there, making his debut with the Century Opera Company in 1914. He first sang with the Met in Tosca in November 1917 and became one of its mainstays in supporting roles, creating Marco in Gianni Schicchi in 1918 and parts in the premieres of The King's Henchman, Peter Ibbetson and Merry Mount. He last appeared there in February 1948, and died in Jersey City.
