A Portuguese tenor who sang leading roles across Europe, often beside his younger brother, the baritone Francisco D'Andrade. The son of a Lisbon jurist, he trained there and from 1881 in Italy with Corrado Miraglia and Sebastiano Ronconi, and made his debut at Varese in 1882 as Fernando in La favorita. At Milan's Teatro Dal Verme in 1884 he created Roberto in the first version of Le villi. After seasons in Moscow and at the Royal Italian Opera in London he created Aben-Afan in Keil's Donna Bianca at the São Carlos in 1888. Deafness ended his career by 1900.
