Filippo Coletti
also Filippo Andrea Francesco Coletti
Birthplace: Anagni, French Empire (département de Rome)
Filippo Coletti was an Italian baritone who created Gusmano in Verdi's Alzira at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples in 1845 and Francesco in I masnadieri in London in 1847. In 1854 he sang Germont in the revised La traviata in Venice. A pupil of Alessandro Busti, he made his debut at the Teatro del Fondo in Naples in 1834. At the San Carlo he also created Lusignano in Donizetti's Caterina Cornaro. His first London engagement, in 1840, set off riots by admirers of Tamburini, whom he had been brought in to replace. He sang until 1869.
