Rose Caron
also Rose Lucile Meunier, Lucille Meuniez
Birthplace: Monnerville, French Empire
Rose Caron was a French soprano who rivalled Lucienne Bréval as the reigning prima donna of the Paris Opéra, admired for a restrained art without showy effects. After the Paris Conservatoire she made her operatic debut in Brussels in 1883, as Alice in Robert le diable, and there created Brunehild in Reyer's Sigurd and later the title role of his Salammbô. At the Opéra from 1885 she was the first Desdemona in Verdi's Otello in Paris and the first Sieglinde there; at the Opéra-Comique she sang Fidelio and Gluck's Iphigénie and Orpheus. She later taught at the Conservatoire.
