Juanita Caracciolo
also Juanita Armani
Birthplace: Ravenna, Kingdom of Italy
An Italian lyric soprano, admired for the grace of her singing, whose career was cut short by her death at thirty-five. The daughter of an operetta company's administrator and one of its singers, she studied in Milan with Clelia Sangiorgi and made her debut in Genoa as Nedda at the end of 1907. A tour of Egypt in 1911, the year she married the conductor Giacomo Armani, made her name abroad. She created Gabriella in Zandonai's La via della finestra in 1919, sang Lodoletta under Mascagni, and at La Scala under Toscanini sang Manon Lescaut in 1922.
