Georges Bourgeois
A singer of character and supporting parts across four decades of French opera. At the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels he was Hunding in the house's first Die Walküre in 1887 and Hagen in its first Götterdämmerung in 1891, and at the Paris Opéra he was a cenobite in the premiere of Massenet's Thaïs in 1894. After seasons at the Gaîté-Lyrique he joined the Metropolitan Opera from 1909 to 1912, creating Billy Jackrabbit in La fanciulla del West. At the Opéra-Comique from 1915 he created parts in La rôtisserie de la reine Pédauque and Lorenzaccio, both in 1920.
