Marc Bonnehée

Marc Bonnehée was a French baritone who created Guy de Montfort in Verdi's Les vêpres siciliennes at the Paris Opéra in 1855. Born at Moumour in the Basses-Pyrénées, he studied in Toulouse and at the Paris Conservatoire, where he took first prizes in singing and grand opéra in 1853, and made his debut at the Opéra that December as Alphonse in La favorite. He remained there until 1864, creating roles in Halévy's La magicienne and Poniatowski's Pierre de Médicis, and sang in Madrid in 1865 and at Toulouse from 1869. He retired in 1873, teaching at the Conservatoire from 1879.
