Margit Bokor

Margit Bokor was a Hungarian soprano who studied in Budapest and Vienna and made her stage debut at Leipzig in 1928. She joined the Dresden Staatsoper in 1930, creating Zdenka in the world premiere of Arabella in 1933, and repeated the role at its London premiere the following year, prompting the Daily Telegraph's Richard Capell to write she 'could hardly have been better'. She left Germany after the Nazi takeover, sang at the Vienna State Opera until 1938, and fled again, to Paris and then the United States in 1939, where she sang until her death in New York in 1949.
