Ernesto Badini
Birthplace: San Colombano al Lambro, Kingdom of Italy
An Italian baritone and a fine comic actor, best known as Gianni Schicchi. He trained at the Milan Conservatory and at La Scala created Lescaut in the final version of Manon Lescaut in 1922. His greatest success was Schicchi, which he sang in the opera's first performances in Milan and at Covent Garden in 1920, and he took part in the premieres of Mascagni's Il piccolo Marat, Giordano's La cena delle beffe and Wolf-Ferrari's Sly. He was a favourite in South America and at Salzburg, and recorded Don Pasquale complete. His voice was modest, his acting assured.
