Angelo Badà
Birthplace: Pernate, Novara, Kingdom of Italy
An Italian tenor, for thirty seasons the chief comprimario of the Metropolitan Opera. He studied at Novara with Cecilio Manfredi and sang in Italian houses, La Scala and the Teatro di San Carlo among them, before his Met debut in 1908. He remained until 1938, giving well over two thousand performances and taking part in a long run of company premieres, among them Deems Taylor's Peter Ibbetson. He created Trin in La fanciulla del West, Il Tinca in Il tabarro and Gherardo in Gianni Schicchi. He sang Shuysky at Covent Garden in 1928 and Dr Caius at Salzburg in 1935.
