1814–1850 · French · bass-baritone

Birthplace: Paris, Kingdom of France

Adolphe-Joseph-Louis Alizard was a French bass-baritone of the Paris Opéra, where he created Roger in Verdi's Jérusalem in 1847. A violinist first, a pupil of Chrétien Urhan, he turned to singing at the Paris Conservatoire in 1834. After a first prize there he made his debut at the Opéra in 1837 as Saint-Bris in Les Huguenots, and sang mainly minor roles until 1842, when he went to Brussels for two years. Throat trouble kept him off the stage from 1844 to 1846. After a brief return to Paris he retired to Marseille, where he died at 35.
