Marta Adam

Marta Adam was a German contralto who trained at the Leipzig Conservatory under Marie Hedmondt and devoted her career chiefly to concert and oratorio singing, appearing at the Bach festivals of Essen and Leipzig and touring Scandinavia three times in the 1920s. From 1919 she was a member of the Rosenthal Quartet, alongside the soprano Ilse Helling-Rosenthal, until the Nazi regime dissolved it; she later married the quartet's bass, Wolfgang Rosenthal, and is recorded in later life as Marta Rosenthal. Away from the concert platform, she created Eine alte Frau in the revised, 1940 version of Strauss's Guntram, at its Weimar revival.
